PAULA’S SPECIAL TRIP TO SEE “WE WILL ROCK YOU”

Queen fanatic Paula Payne had a dream come true on Thursday 3rd July when a silver limousine arrived at her home in Baldock to take her to see “We Will Rock You”, the musical by Queen and Ben Elton, at the Coliseum in London’s West End.

Paula lives at a home in Baldock, Hertfordshire with 24 hour carer support due to her long-term special needs.  Sadly Paula has also had a recurrence of a cancer diagnosis recently for which no further treatment is available.

Paula is an amazing singer,” says her friend Robert Breakwell who has known Paula since she was a teenager.  “For many years Paula took part in a charity fundraising event called The Pepper Show and her musical talent always thrilled audiences and her friends in the cast. Paula now has to use a wheelchair so we knew that getting her to see “We Will Rock You” featuring all her favourite Queen songs was something she would love”.

I was very excited to go to see “We Will Rock You”, said Paula, “and it was amazing.  The lady who sang as Killer Queen was a fabulous singer and I loved the show. And I’ve never been in a such special car.  The whole day was brilliant: thank you!”.

To make the day as special as possible, Robert turned to Purple Heart Wishes, a charity that grants wishes to people who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness aged 18 - 55, who helped to organise the special day which included seats in a private box at the theatre and a luxurious Chrysler stretched limousine to drive Paula in comfort on her special day out.

Paula was accompanied by one of her carers, Robert and his wife Diane who went along to share the fun which also included lunch at a burger restaurant and ice creams during the interval.

“Paula has used her musical talent over many years to raise funds by singing in the Pepper Show which supports The Pepper Foundation, a charity which has raised over £5 million for children’s hospice at home care.  We were so pleased to be able to work with Purple Heart Wishes to organise this trip which is a wonderful memory that Paula will never forget.”
